NOTE NEW ACOUSTICS '08 JOB FORUM
Please note the online Acoustics '08 jobs forum: a website containing resumes that you submit, and job postings submitted by acoustics employers exhibiting at the conference, divided up by acoustics specialty. The service is limited to participants of the Acoustics '08 conference, and your resume filename must fit a particular format, but the service is at no additional charge for those who have already registered for the conference. For instructions on submission and for the listings themselves, please click on to www.acoustics08-paris.org/job-forum.
ADDITIONAL PARIS HOTEL INFORMATION SPECIFICALLY FOR STUDENTS
Our French student council member has compiled several pages of additional Paris hotel info specifically for students. If you'd like an affordable option other than the dormitories you'll likely find something useful in here.
STUDENT E-ZINE FOR PARIS CONFERENCE
The ASA student e-zine is now available for the Paris conference! Download it now and plan ahead with extra information for students such as housing info, social events, and activities.
STUDENT LUNCHEON
A student luncheon will be held on Thursday, 3 July. This luncheon is free but students who wish to attend MUST PRE-REGISTER online when they register for the conference: http://www.acoustics08-paris.org/registration. Deadline for pre-registration is Friday, 23 May.
STUDENT DORMITORIES
A limited number of rooms will be reserved for students. Priority will be given to students until 8 February 2008, then open to all participants. The rooms will be allocated on a “first-come first-served” basis. Standard rooms (single and twins) have individual bathrooms but no air-conditioning. For dormitory reservations, please go to the following link: http://www.acoustics08-paris.org/students/dormitories
PARIS MEETING SUBMISSION DEADLINE ALMOST HERE!
Don't forget! The deadline is almost here - January 10th at 12h00 GMT+1; submit your abstract at the conference website, www.acoustics08-paris.org! You must indicate that you are applying for funding in your abstract submission (if you wish funding assistance).  Students will be notified if they receive funding before the early registration payment deadline, which is February 8, 2008.
NOTE STUDENT INFO ON CONFERENCE WEBSITE
The official conference website for the Paris meeting, www.acoustics08-paris.org, now has student info regarding housing, travel grants, student paper awards, and design competition. Note the "student" line in the menu sidebar on that website.
GET (OR RENEW) YOUR PASSPORT NOW!
Americans will need a passport to visit France for the Paris ASA meeting (but not a visa assuming your visit will be for 3 months or less). For Americans, the default slow path to getting a passport can take up to a few months (special rush options are available, but why wait and risk it). The US government passport webpage is here. If you're just renewing an expired passport you can download a form for that on that passport webpage. If you've never had a passport before you'll need to apply for one in person in one of various agencies in your city. More on that process is on that same webpage.
EU citizens don't need a visa either, but a passport or ID card is recommended to prove your identity while traveling. The European Union travel webpage is here.
Non EU citizens will need a passport, and depending which country you're from may or may not need a visa - there may be useful information for you on that EU webpage above, but we highly recommend that you contact your nearest French consulate. A list of French consulates in the US is here.
OFFICIAL WEBSITE FOR PARIS MEETING
The official website for the joint Paris meeting of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), the European Acoustics Association (EAA), and the Société Française d’Acoustique (SFA) is www.acoustics08-paris.org. The student council will strive to provide you accurate information that is geared toward students, but that website will certainly also be useful to you. We expect to submit abstracts and look up session information on this website in future months.
STAY TUNED FOR UPCOMING STUDENT INFO ON 2008 PARIS MEETING
It's still nine months away and much is still undetermined regarding the Paris ASA meeting. But since this will be a more expensive and involved (international) trip, the student council will strive to provide as much information as possible, as early as possible, to students. Stay tuned to this website and look periodically for more information about the Paris meeting...
