Photos from the 5th Meeting of the MidSouth ASA Chapter
The University of Mississippi, Oxford MS
October 30-31, 2009:
Dr. Lee Bolen (left) displays a reverberation time measurement taken in the Paris-Yates chapel on the University of Mississippi campus. A popped balloon provided the impulsive sound source and Dr. Bolen recorded the reverberation time with his laptop running the free Audacity program. Dr. Carl Frederickson (left) and students from the University of Central Arkansas admire the University of Mississippi's Ford Center for the performing arts where Dr. Bolen also performed reverberation time measurements with the student's help.
Dr. Lee Bolen (left) gives a tour of the anechoic chamber located at the National Center for Physical Acoustics located on the University of Mississippi campus. Meeting attendees examining the National Center for Physical Acoustics' anechoic chamber.
Dr. Lee Bolen (far left) stands in the anechoic chamber with William Funderburk (far right) and students from the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science. Jelle Assink (center) explains details of his poster entitled "Volcanic infrasound to study atmospheric ducts" to fellow University of Mississippi graduate students Logan Marcus (left) and Carl Jensen (right).
Rhodes College physics major, Peter Zastoupil (left), is congratulated by William Slaton after winning the drawing for the ZX1 speakers valued at $700 that were generously donated to the MidSouth ASA Chapter by ElectroVoice in Morrilton, AR. Dr. Jim Chambers, research scientist, presents an overview of the research done at the National Center for Physical Acoustics. Dr. Charles Langston from the Center for Earthquake Research and Information presents an overview of the research done at the Center located on the University of Memphis campus.
Dr. Bob Dunn presents his research on using ring lasers to detect seismic/acoustic waves at Hendrix College in Conway, AR. Dr. Brent Hoffmeister from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN presents ultrasound measurements to characterize bone samples.
